A major initiative for - Food for Now - is a program called KEEP TORONTO CLEAN to provide the homeless with the ability to earn some much needed money, by providing them with a broom, dust pan and garbage bags so that they can keep their space clean and to help clean sidewalks and store fronts that are interested in offering them a $1 to sweep and pick up litter surrounding their business.
This helps build self-esteem and self-worth.
When Daniel was homeless 19 years ago in the community of Etobicoke, he would take a broom and offer to clean in order to make money instead on panhandling. Some businesses didn’t pay, but many did. Regardless of whether they paid or not - Daniel would do his best to clean up his neighbours properties and as a community, they saw his hard work and offered to help him to get out of his circumstances.
It is Daniel’s hope, that by providing a meaningful method to enable individuals a way to help themselves and by doing so - help the community - it will give them an opportunity see that they can also make a difference.
It’s a community effort - Making today a little bit better than yesterday. One person at a time.
Any donations you can make to help this program would be greatly appreciated
